Patent functions
First of all, a patent represents a protection title, granting the owner
exclusive exploitation right on the object of the patented invention.
At the same time the published patent documents (patent applications
or the patents) serve as technical information sources, due to the fact
that the inventor this offers him exclusive exploi disclose his invention
in order to be granted protection by a patent. It has to be mentioned
that, besides these basic functions,the competitive economic system
based on non-restrictive practices concerning trading freedom, but observing
principles of protection right defence, especially in the field of industrial
property, made the strategy of a company in the patents field, to be
based on the following functions, stressing again the above mentioned
ones:
a) Of protection;
b) Of information;
c) Of motivation in order to give the employees the certainly that their
intellectual effort is useful to the firm and
has economical effects;
d) Of reputation-it consists of the image the firm acquires on the market
or in the technical field where it develops its activity;
e) Financial-patents can be an extra source of income for the firm-for
example license;
f) Offensive-or of attack, to stop and intimidate the competitors in
the activity field of the firm, of the marketing
activity including products market promotion,
etc.;
